At least the Cubs didn’t have to face Stephen Strasburg tonight. Instead they got the Brewers’ ace Yovani Gallardo (6-2).
Chicago wasn’t able to score a run of off Gallardo but Milwaukee struggled against Ted Lilly (1-5). Gallardo tossed 7 shutout innings vs. the North-Siders. However the Cubs, were finally able to break through against the Brewers’ bullpen in the 8th.
With 2 outs, Tyler Colvin came up huge with and RBI single to put the Cubs up 1-0.
The lead wouldn’t last long at all, as Lilly served up a homerun to Corey Hart on the very 1st pitch of the bottom half of 8th. Lilly finished the night pitching 8 innings of 1 run ball. Lilly struck out 8 and walked 0.
The Cubs showed some fight in the 9th scoring their 2nd run on an Alfonso Soriano RBI groundout.
Once again though, the lead didn’t hold. With 2 outs in the 9th, Carlos Marmol blew the save and allowed the game winning 2 RBI single to Casey McGehee.
Before the game, rumors began to swirl, saying that Aramis Ramirez will most likely be placed on the disabled list tomorrow and Chad Tracy (who has been killing AAA pitching) will be recalled.
