The Chicago Cubs scored 15 runs over the last 2 games, but could only get one run home and that was on a Starlin Castro rbi single. Castro racked up another multi-hit game as he went 2-4. With that rbi single, he added a double too. It’s not like the Cubs didn’t have chances, but they did leave their share of runners in scoring position. I believe their was a man at third with less than 2 outs and the batter struck out. That reminds me of last year, but to me this club is better and won’t happen as much.
Cubs starting pitcher Chris Volstad had one bad inning in which he gave up 4 runs (3 earned), but besides that inning, he was pretty good through out the day. That one run that was unearned, was on a error by shortstop Starlin Castro. However, 1B Brain LaHair made a mistake and took his foot off the base. It may have been a high throw, but he didn’t need to take his foot off the base and should have not been an error. More importantly the run would have not scored.
The other run came off of Shawn Camp and it was a home run off the bat of John Jay. I think if a player was made available or a player is lighting it up in the minors, Camp will be released or DFA. He’s giving up too many runs and not showing much.
Starlin Castro had 2 errors this game, but from what I saw, Brian LaHair could have made both plays. That’s the difference of not having good defenders at 1B. The past years, the Cubs were lucky as they had Derrek Lee and Carlos Pena over at 1B. The Cubs do have Anthony Rizzo waiting on his call from Triple A and he’s an above-average defender at 1B. That’ll be a good day and can’t wait for that to happen.
Tomorrow the Cubs will try to win the series as they host the Cardinals at 1:05 p.m. central. Paul Maholm will be on the mound for the Cubs and will take on Jake Westbrook.
