Iowa Cubs (AAA)- Beat Fresno 5-3
Jeff Samardzija got the start, and pitched very well yet again. Six innings, one unearned run, four hits, one walk, five strikeouts. That puts his AAA ERA at 3.05, and he continues to encourage those who still believe in him that he might have figured something out. We will find out soon enough.
Brian Schlitter pitched a scoreless inning of relief, allowing just one walk.
Robinson Chirinos (C) was moved up to AAA when Wellington Castillo got the MLB call, he went 1-4 with a home run.
Marquez Smith (3B) could interest the Cubs in September, he went 2-3 with a home run and a walk.
Tennessee Smokies (AA)- Lost to Chattanooga 8-2
Rafael Dolis started, and got lit up like a Christmas tree. In three and two-thirds innings he allowed seven earned runs on five hits and four walks. Starts like this are why he projects more as a reliever.
Brett Jackson (RF) went 0-4 with a strikeout
Tony Thomas (2B) went 2-4 with a RBI
Daytona Cubs (High-A)- Lost to Tampa 5-3
Alberto Cabrera had a very iffy start, lasting just five innings. He allowed four runs on eight hits and three walks. He’s still having a decent season overall though, with a 3.50 FIP despite getting terribly unlucky on balls in play (BABIP .362).
Junior Lake (SS) 0-4 with two strikeouts
D.J. LeMahieu (2B) 3-4 with a double
Ryan Flaherty (3B) 2-4 with a double
Michael Brenly (C) 0-4
Peoria Chiefs (Low-A)- Beat Kane County 4-0
Su-Min Jung was the starter, but he only went three innings. He struck out one, and allowed three hits, but no runs.
Jeffry Antigua took over after, and dominated for five innings. He struck out seven, walked none, and gave up three hits.
Hak-Ju Lee (SS) 0-3 with a walk and a run scored.
Jae-Hoon Ha (RF) stayed hot, going 3-4 with a run scored. Shame he doesn’t have a clue how to take a walk.
Logan Watkins (2B) 1-3 with a double and a walk.
Boise Hawks (Rookie)- Lost to Everett 7-3
AZL Cubs (Rookie)- Beat AZL Angels 5-2
