Fun night across the system, with plenty of fireworks from Sandberg’s team, and the first rehab outing from Carlos Silva.
Iowa Cubs (AAA)- Beat Omaha 9-8
Jay Jackson started, and pitched fairly well. Six innings, three runs (all earned), six hits, two walks, and five strikeouts. That is a “quality start” pretty much by its definition.
Robinson Chirinos (C) had another monster game, 4-5 with a three run home run. I know Chirinos hasn’t been a catcher for long, but his offensive production this season has to make him the favorite to backup Soto next year.
Marquez Smith (3B) went 2-5.
Two guys who will probably never amount to major league players, but are fine AAA players, hit home runs as well. Jason Dubois and Brad Snyder.
Tennessee Smokies (AA)- Beat Birmingham 5-2
Rafael Dolis started and had some nice results. He allowed only two runs over six innings despite allowing eight hits and three walks. He also had four strikeouts.
Esmailin Caridad continued his rehab, and had his best outing of the season. One inning pitched, one hit, three strikeouts. No walks being the best part.
Brett Jackson (RF) went 1-3 with a double and a walk.
Steve Clevenger (C) went 3-4 with a double.
Tony Thomas (2B) went 2-4 with a triple.
Daytona Cubs (High-A)- Lost to Lakeland 5-1
Alberto Cabrera started, and racked up a ton of strikeouts. Over six innings he struck out 10, walked two, allowed three hits, and gave up an unearned run.
Junior Lake (SS) 0-3 with a walk. He’s hitting .268 this season, hasn’t had a really good game since I started doing this, and has 40 errors. I think I’m going to put him on the ignore list.
D.J. LeMahieu (2B) 1-4 with a double.
Evan Crawford (CF) 0-4, can we have Fontenot back now?
Peoria Chiefs (Low-A)- Beat Cedar Rapids 3-1
Carlos Silva got the start. He threw 50 pitches, which got him through 2 2/3 innings. He gave up two hits, not walks, and struck out one. I’d imagine he gets another start, probably in Iowa, before coming back to the Cubs.
Hak-Ju Lee (SS) went 2-3 with a stolen base (his 32). He also made his 33rd error of the season.
Jae-Hoon Ha (RF) went 1-3 with a home run, his seventh of the season.
Boise Hawks (Rookie)- Beat Tri-City 3-2
Boise had four pitchers last night, and they combined for 19 strikeouts. Kerry Wood sits back and laughs, the rest of us are impressed though.
