Daytona had the day off, the rest of the system went 3-1 yesterday. Much better than the big club.
Iowa Cubs (AAA)- Beat Portland 9-6
J.R. Mathes put together a quality start, going six innings allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits. He had three strikeouts and a walk, both earned runs came off homers.
Jeff Gray (I could have sworn he was still on the big league team, but clearly I’m wrong) allowed three runs in his two innings of work. He got both a blown save and the win.
Darwin Barney went 1-5.
Special appearance for Micah Hoffpauir, not because he’s a prospect, but because he went 4-4 with a homer, two doubles, and three RBI. His 20 homers this season leads the entire organization.
Tennessee Smokies (AA)- Beat Huntsville 13-3
Chris Rusin made his second AA start of the season, and put together a solid outing. In six innings pitched he allowed two runs on eight hits, he had no walks and four strikeouts as well.
Kyle Smit, of the Dodgers trade, went 1 2/3 innings in relief allowing one run on two hits and two walks.
Brett Jackson played right field, and made a huge impact with his bat. He went 2-3 with a home run, two walks, and three runs scored.
Tony Thomas (2B) went 2-5 with a home run and a double.
Daytona Cubs (High-A)- Day off
Peoria Chiefs (Low-A)- Beat Quad Cities 4-0
Ryan Searle pitched six and two-thirds shutout innings to get his sixth win of the season. He gave up four hits and a walk against eight strikeouts. If he can finish out this season with some more strong starts, look for him to get a second chance at High-A next season.
Hak-Ju Lee (SS) went 1-3 with a walk and a steal.
Logan Watkins played center field and went 0-2 with two walks.
Jae-Hoon Ha (RF) went 1-3 with a RBI.
Boise Hawks (Rookie)- Lost to Everett 15-4
Not much of note here. Dustin Fitzgerald got the start and lasted only two innings. He gave up six runs on nine hits.
This is the team I need to most help knowing who to pay attention to. I don’t recognize anyone on this team besides…
Kyung-Min Na (CF) 0-3 with a walk. His .596 OPS this season for Boise surely has earned him future mention here.
