Jeff Samardzija has struggled all year, and the Cubs have finally made the move.
The Cubs announced today that they have optioned Jeff Samardzija to Triple-A Iowa to open a spot for Ted Lilly who returns off the DL tonight.
Samardzija just seems like he’s not ready for the big leagues yet. He posted a 18.90 ERA in four relief appearances this season. Leading to part of the reason why the Cubs bullpen has struggled.
Earlier in the week the Cubs announced that Carlos Zambrano would be moving to the pen. The bullpen has been the weakness of the Cubs this year, surprisingly enough.
Lilly makes his first start of the 2010 season against Milwaukee tonight.
