After giving up 3 runs on 4 hits (Including a triple by Jason Bourgeois) in just 2/3 of an IP against the Astros on Wednesday, Howry has been given his unconditional release by the Cubs. He allowed 19 runs (13 Earned) in 20 2/3 innings for the Cubs while striking out only 8 and walking 7. With Howry’s release came Zambrano’s return to the Cubs after his much maligned blow up in the Cubs dugout against the White Sox. He will return to the bullpen and likely work in middle relief for the Cubs.
Howry is expected to retire.
