According to Jayson Stark of ESPN.com, the Cubs have signed pitcher Trever Miller to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training. If he makes the Cubs ‘pen, Miller will earn 800,000.
Miller is 38 years old and is a left-handed pitcher. Miller has been all over the MLB playing for different teams. The Cubs will be his 9th team he has played for. Miller has played for the … Detroit Tigers (1996), 2 times with the Houston Astros (1998-1999 and 2006-2007), Philadelphia Phillies (2000), Los Angeles Dodgers (2000), 2 times with the Toronto Blue Jays (2003 and 2011), 2 times with the Tampa Bay [Devil] Rays (2004-2005 and 2008), St. Louis Cardinals (2009-2011) and the Boston Red Sox (2011).
In his career, Miller has a 18-17 record with a 4.19 earn run average, 431 strikeouts and 11 saves.
I see Miller as a long shot to make the majors. The Cubs whole list of non-roster invitees was expected to be announced last week, but it wasn’t. An announcement should be announced this week some time.
