The Chicago Cubs have started the selling early as Keith Law reports the Cubs have sent pitcher Scott Feldman and catcher Steve Clevenger to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for pitchers Jake Arrieta and Pedro Strop. The Cubs also receive international bonus money in the deal.
It’s no surprise the Cubs were going to be sellers this year and Feldman has been a name brought up in plenty of rumors. He was set to become a free agent after this year and his nice start to the 2013 season helped raise his trade value.
In four seasons with the Orioles, the 24-year-old pitcher Arrieta is 20-25 with a 5.46 ERA in 63 starts. He started the season as the Orioles fifth starter in their rotation and prior to 2009 was ranked the 67th-best prospect in the MLB by Baseball America.
Strop has struggled with the Orioles this season with a 0-3 record and 7.25 ERA for the reliever, but he did have a solid 2012 season as he finished with a 5-2 record and 2.44 ERA in 70 appearances with the Orioles. He looks to boost the Cubs bullpen which has struggled this season.
