The DePaul Blue Demons were hoping to start another winning streak after defeating Seton Hall on Tuesday night. Unfortunately that would not be the case as the Demons (11-19, 3-14 Big East) went to New York’s Madison Square Garden on Sunday, and were sent home with a 72-64 loss thanks to St. Johns (19-11, 9-8). It’s the same old story in another long and miserable season for DePaul, but not everything was gloom and doom for this team.
Senior guard Brandon Young led the Blue Demons with 23 points, and in the process he moved up to fifth on the school’s all-time scoring list (1,840 career points). He surpassed Tom Kleinschmidt (1,837 points) who starred at both shooting guard and small forward for the Demons from 1991-1995. During his time in Lincoln Park, Young has always been a consistent player despite the fact that the programs track record doesn’t reflect that.
One of Oliver Purnell‘s original recruits in 2010, Young has always put up high numbers and his leadership has stood out. He is scheduled to graduate in May and is a potential NBA Draft pick in June. Young along with fellow guard Edwind McGhee and forward Sandi Marcius will be honored on Thursday for Senior Night. On that evening, DePaul will wrap up it’s regular season at home against Butler. Tip off at Allstate Arena is scheduled for 8pm.
Cleveland Melvin would have also been honored that night had he not departed the school last month. Follow me on Twitter @GabeSalgado82
