The Chicago Bulls have announced that point guard Derrick Rose underwent successful surgery on his left eye Wednesday and will miss at least two weeks.

Rose took a elbow to the face in the team’s first practice on Tuesday and suffered a left orbital fracture. Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg remained optimistic that Rose wouldn’t miss a lot of time and would be ready for the season opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Rose will begin basketball activities again in two weeks but will miss the teams first few preseason games which begin October 6.
The point guard hasn’t been able to escape the injury bug as he’s only played in just 100 regular season games for the Bulls in the last four seasons. Last year he suffered a knee injury that kept him out a few weeks before returning just in time for the NBA Playoffs.
The Bulls will continue practice this week.
