The Chicago Cubs left Tuesday’s game at Wrigley Field as winners over the White Sox, after dropping game one of the four-game set on Monday.
It didn’t take long for the Cubs to get on the board as Willson Contreras hit a three-run homer off of Carlos Rodon to give them an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. But the White Sox answered back, capped with a Rodon two-run double off of John Lackey.
With the White Sox trailing just 3-2 early, tensions were apparently running high in the Cubs dugout.
According to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times, Lackey and Rizzo apparently had a discussion that was a little heated.
After Lackey gave up a two-out, two-run double to White Sox pitcher Carlos Rodon in a frustrating second inning, he could be seen bumping Rizzo as he passed him in the dugout. Rizzo and Lackey then engaged in a brief, animated discussion that for a moment looked heated.
“I’m not sure what happened,” said teammate Addison Russell, who said it was over almost as quickly as it began.
“I sat down and heard something,” catcher Willson Contreras said, “but I didn’t hear clearly so I don’t know what happened there.”
As you can see, Wittenmyer notes that teammates really didn’t see it and it was a non-factor for the team. They might be right.
According to this video from Twitter, it appears as if it was just the two discussing something and it didn’t get out of line:
Found it. Looks like a total non story. Teammates having a discussion. pic.twitter.com/WugwiYdch7

We probably won’t know exactly what the two were discussing as the matter is over and done with.
Game 3 between the two teams takes place Wednesday Night at Guaranteed Rate Field.
