After being called up this week, the Blackhawks hope their Finnish 1st round pick Teuvo Teravainen can fill needed depth at the center position.
Teuvo had just finished his hockey season in Finland and the Blackhawks look to get him NHL experience at the end of their season. Come playoff time, Teuvo will probably not see the ice as this call up is mainly an evaluation of his ability rather than a core addition to the roster. This is most likely seeing as he has no prior North American hockey experience. Nonetheless this may be a sneak peak of the Blackhawks’ future 2nd or 3rd line center.
Teuvo Teravainen is known to be the type of player making up for lack of size with skill. At 5’11”, 165 pounds, he uses superior hands and skating ability to replace strength. He may need to add weight to compete full time in the NHL but that’s not always the case as Andrew Shaw and Patrick Kane were once criticized for lack of size.
According to Coach Quenville, Teuvo is expected to make his Blackhawks debut tonight, 3/25 at 7 pm CST against the Stars.
