Could the Chicago Bears trade DJ Moore? One ESPN insider seems to think it’s a possibility
A lot went wrong for the Chicago Bears during the 2024-25 season. After the debacle that was the Hail Mary in Washington, the wheels fell off the bus for the Bears as they lost 10 games in a row. Thankfully, the season ended in joy as Chicago went into Green Bay and knocked off the Packers, giving the fans some hope heading into the offseason.
One of the real positives for the team was DJ Moore, once again, as he’s proven to be the most talented player on this roster for the last 2 years. He caught 6 touchdowns in 2024, in what was more of a down year when compared to Moore’s standards.
ESPN NFL insider Ben Solak recently wrote a piece on his offseason predictions, and one included the Bears moving on from DJ Moore, particularly trading him to the New England Patriots.
“After trying (and failing) in the Tee Higgins market, the Patriots will put together a solid trade for a veteran receiver,” Solak wrote, “DK Metcalf and DJ Moore are the two names that make the most sense. The Patriots won’t mind sending away draft capital for immediate contributors, as they plan to trade out of the No. 4 overall pick anyway.”
Moore will turn 28 in April, and recently signed a 4-year contract extension with the Chicago Bears. It makes little sense to even mention this, but after the awful season that just transpired, anything is possible. Especially with this unpredictable front office.
Is DJ Moore an issue at all for this team that already has so many other issues? He’s too young to be moved for a couple mid-round picks, especially after signing him to an extension just this past spring. If you thought it would just happen automatically for him and Caleb Williams, you are sorely mistaken. The duo should make significant strides in year 2.
With teams like the Patriots, Raiders, and event the Pittsburgh Steelers in the market for a wide out: Moore would likely warrant a decent package. But nothing compared to his value as the number one playmaker for this offense that still needs work.
Will the Chicago Bears even entertain the idea of trading DJ Moore?
I think they won’t. It’s doubtful that Keenan Allen re-signs with the Bears, and Rome Odunze has not yet proven enough to warrant even discussing trading Moore. You’re doing a young quarterback like Caleb Williams a disservice by trading away his number one option, even if you do address it in the draft or free agency.
If they come out of the gates slow in 2025, then maybe you consider moving him before his age becomes a problem. The offense needs to be smoother and more operational in next season, and without DJ Moore that doesn’t happen.
However, at this point it makes no sense to suggest this from the Chicago Bears standpoint. That is unless the perfect offer arrises, which I don’t anticipate. I think it’s more of a possibility that he asks to be traded, before the Bears just do so for more draft capital.
