It’s been a few years since the Chicago Bulls were actually a team that was “fun” to watch. You have to go back to 2016-17 when the team had the “Three Alphas” of Jimmy Butler, Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo.
They weren’t very good but there was still drama and sometimes excitement surrounding the team.
As Chicago enters the second year of the Jim Boylen era, they are a young team that is looking to improve on a 22-60 record and possibly contend for a playoff spot in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. Chicago drafted point guard Coby White out of North Carolina and forward Daniel Gafford out of Arkansas.
They also traded for Otto Porter last season and signed Thad Young and Tomas Satoransky during free agency. Add that into the mix with young, talented players such as Zach LaVine, Lauri Markkanen and Wendell Carter Jr. and there’s a recipe for some potential excitement, making the games somewhat watchable.
One media outlet thinks the Bulls could be exciting and listed them as a Top 10 team to watch ahead of the season. ESPN’s Zach Lowe released his annual NBA League Pass Rankings for the upcoming season, breaking it down into two parts.
The Bulls were listed in that second part at No. 8 on the list of teams to watch on NBA’s League Pass. Here is part of what he said:
LaVine is the best dunker since prime Vince Carter, with the craziest shot selection this side of JR Smith. My man will take half-turnaround 3s. But his jumper is pretty, and he can go on extended hot streaks.
There is a ton of smart give-and-go improvisation — the winks and nods in tight spaces that make basketball sing — between Otto Porter Jr., Tomas Satoransky and Thaddeus Young. We need a full season of the Lauri Markkanen–Wendell Carter Jr. duo. They could develop into the rare frontcourt pairing in which both members can play inside or outside — allowing them to shift almost randomly and keep defenses guessing:
Each year Lowe ranks NBA teams based on how fun they will be to watch on League Pass. If you’re not familiar with League Pass, it’s a service that the NBA offers which allows a customer to watch any game on any night in the league. It’s a great option for NBA fans.
It’s still uncertain how good this Bulls team will be but with some young and exciting players, they could be a team that you keep your eyes on in 2019-20.
