After losing the series opener of interleague play in Texas the Chicago Cubs (21-24) managed to pull out the series win against the Rangers (25-20).
On the mound for the Cubs was their right hander Carlos. No, not Zambrano but Carlos Silva. Silva continued his success in Texas and improved to 6-0 on the season. Silva went 5.1 innings and allowed 3 runs.
The Cubs hit Rangers’ starter C.J. Wilson (3-2) pretty hard in the 1st inning. Derrek Lee and Marlon Byrd both contributed RBI’s but Alfonso Soriano did the damage by hitting his 9th home run (a 2 run shot) of the year.
The Rangers didn’t roll over, in the 3rd Michael Young hit a 2 run shot to cut the deficit to 2.
Koyie Hill hit the game winning RBI in the 6th when he singled in Xavier Nady for the Cubs’ 5th run of the day.
Young did even more damage against the North-Siders, when in the 7th he doubled home Elvis Andrus making the score 5-4 Cubs.
That score held as Carlos Marmol shut the door, striking out the side in the 9th. It was Marmol’s 9th save of the season.
With an off day on Monday, the Cubs head back home to take on the Los Angelos Dodgers (25-18) for a 4 game set. Ryan Dempster (2-4) has lost his last 4 decisions but he will be called upon to open up the series. The Dodgers will send their up and coming star Clayton Kershaw (4-2) to try and shut the Cubs down.
