At least they scored runs this time! Coming fresh off a sweep last night the Sox were dropped by the Toronto Blue Jays 7-4 in 12 innings.
The game was scoreless through 4 as both pitchers were excellent. John Buck broke the tie in the 5th with his 2 run homer run to left center field. Mark Kotsay countered with a 2 run home run of his own to deep center field.
In the bottom half of the 6th the Sox took the lead on another long ball, this time by Alex Rios. That lead lasted until the top of the 8th until MB56 walked Vernon Wells with the bases loaded, Snider scored.
In the 9th John Buck went deep for the second time. That lead didn’t last long however as A.J. took one to right field to send the game into extra’s.
Relief pitchers were good for both squads until Alex Gonzalez stepped to the plate. He then proceeded to take the ball deep to left field to make it a 7-4 ball game. It would end that way as Juan Pierre grounded out 2nd.
Buehrle went 8 innings giving up 3 runs on 8 hits striking out 4 and walking 2.
Jenks was shaky for his appearance giving up a run on 3 hits.
Thornton was excellent as he went 2 innings striking out 5 and allowing 0 runs.
The loss went to J.J. Putz as he gave up the 3 run home run to Gonzalez.
The Blue Jays bullpen was great as they allowed only one run in 4 1/3 innings.
The Sox will look to take tomorrow’s contest at the Cell at 6:10.
