The Fire announced on Wednesday that the team had re-signed midfielder/striker Chris Rolfe for the 2014 season after Rolfe opted out of the second phase of the Re-Entry Draft. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed at this time, as is both club and league policy, but the Player’s Union periodically released player salaries.
The Fire are also expected to re-sign midfielder and former captain Logan Pause, who also opted out of the draft, in the coming days. Neither Pause nor Rolfe had their options exercised at the end of the season, as the club sought to negotiate less expensive deals with the two long-term members of the team.
The Fire lost Shaun Francis to the San Jose Earthquakes in the first round of the Re-Entry Draft’s second phase on Wednesday. The club had previously lost Corben Bone to the Philadelphia Union in the first round of the first phase.
