The Fire announced on Thursday that they had signed Herrman Trophy finalist Harrison Shipp as a Homegrown Player out of the University of Notre Dame.
In four years with the Fighting Irish, the striker and Illinois native scored twenty-three goals with twenty-four assists in eighty-three games. With twelve goals and ten assists in twenty-four games in his Senior year alone, Shipp was named the 2013 Capital One All-American of the Year, and is one of the finalists for the 2013 Herrmann Trophy to be announced on Friday.
Joining the likes of Victor Pineda and Kellen Gulley, Shipp becomes the third Homegrown Player in franchise history, and has a long history in the Fire’s youth, academy and developmental systems. Shipp played youth soccer with the Chicago Fire Juniors-North and joined the Fire academy for the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Shipp then played for the club’s Premier Development League and Super-20 affiliates during the summers from 2010 to 2013.
Shipp captained Notre Dame to the college’s first NCAA College Cup in 2013, recording an assist on the winning goal in the 2-1 championship-securing victory at PPL Park, home of Major League Soccer’s Philadelphia Union.
