The Chicago Fire have signed Rafael Robayo to a contract of undisclosed terms, the club announced Monday. Robayo, 27, was formerly captain and midfielders of the Colombian side C.D. Los Millionarios. Chicago-Fire.com quoted coach Frank Klopas saying, “Rafael Robayo has an excellent work rate, good defensive energy and will provide support on both sides of the ball. Rafael is a sizable player who can get in and create around the box. He will join our core group in preseason camp as we continue to build toward the 2012 campaign.”
Robayo performed exceptionally well, scoring 20 goals in 187 appearances with Millionarios. Robayo has also played for the Colombian National Team, earning a cap against Venezuela coming off the bench.
Chicago-Fire.com has confirmed that Robayo’s official twitter address is @R8ROBAYO.
