The Fire have allotted much of the pre-season to tournament play, entering the 2014 edition of the FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup. Typically, the Fire have played in the Carolina Challenge Cup in recent years, but have made the switch from the East coast to the desert for 2014.
The tournament will start on February 19 and end with championship, third place and fifth place games on March 1. Also participating in the tournament is FC Tucson of the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League, in which the Fire have a U-23 minor league affiliate, and four other clubs from Major League Soccer, including Chivas USA, the Colorado Rapids, the New England Revolution, and Real Salt Lake.
