The Fire have played at other stadiums in the U.S. Open Cup in the past, but in 2013, it will play all of its home games in the tournament at their home stadium, Toyota Park, the club announced on Tuesday. The club will enter tournament play on Tuesday, May 28. Other locations the Fire have played at for the tournament in the past include Arlington Heights, Wheaton, the Milwaukee suburbs, Naperville, and Peoria.
The potential matchups the Fire will face in their first round (the third round of the tournament) will be composed of amateur teams and teams in lower level professional leagues. Every team from the USL-Pro and the North American Soccer League will qualify for the tournament in addition to every Major League Soccer team. The only exceptions are FC Edmonton, the Montreal Impact, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, and Toronto FC, as all four clubs will instead participate in the Canadian Championship.
