The Fire entered Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts looking for their second win in as many games this season in New England. They appeared to be well on their way to reaching that goal when forward Sanna Nyassi headed home the opening goal in the 28th minute and nearly extended the lead just minutes later on a shot that hit the goalpost.
Unfortunately for the Men in Red, their momentum was unsustainable for the duration of the half as Revolution midfielder Diego Fagundez struck in the 41st minute. Despite surrendering the lead and losing momentum, entering half-time level on the road was far from being a disaster.
The Fire’s fortunes officially turned for the worst in the 60th minute, when Charlie Davies scored just two minutes after entering the match to give New England a 2-1 advantage that would hold up as the final score.
A crowd of 12,204 showed up to support United States and New England midfielder Jermaine Jones against the team that was favored to land his services.
