On Thursday, the Cubs used their 2nd round selection on Rob Zastryzny, a starting pitcher from the University of Missouri. The left-hander is looking to surge up the ranks and prove to the Cubs they made the right selection.
I was fortunate enough to chat with Rob, where I asked him five questions ranging from the feeling of being drafted to the impact he is looking to make with the team.
JJ: What was it like to be drafted to the big leagues?
RZ: Being drafted was one of the best feelings in the world because I had been working towards that goal for my entire life. Just to know that my hard work had been noticed was a great feeling in its own.
JJ: Assuming you sign with the Cubs, what are your goals for the rest of the season?
RZ: 2 of my goals are to make an immediate impact to the team and I’m going to try and become a leader for my teammates and be the best player and that I can be and make the Chicago Cubs organization proud.
JJ: How do you intend to translate your college success to the pros?
RZ: My college success was based on hard work and preparation and I’m going to use that at the next level. I learned a great deal about pitching in college and I’m excited to bring that to the next level and show other people how I play the game and learn from other people and create my own style of play that will take me to the next level to come.
JJ: What do you hope to contribute to the Cubs in the long-term?
RZ: The Cubs obviously have high hopes for me taking me with their second pic and I hope to contribute with them for as long as possible and help them win games and championships. The cubs were the team that gave me the chance so they are getting all of my effort.
JJ: What are you looking forward to most about being a Chicago Cubs?
RZ: I am looking forward to showing them that they made the right choice in picking me and I’ve look forward to being a part of a new team and start a new chapter in my life.
