The Chicago Bears have started the process of filling out paperwork in their head coaching search. After a 5-12 season, the Bears have no postseason to play for in January.
The Bears will be linked to many names over the next month or so. Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is a betting favorite to land with Chicago. The Bears would be best served by finding a head coach who can help develop quarterback Caleb Williams in his second season in the league.
Still, the Bears will look for a so-called “leader of men.” That could mean Chicago hires a defensive mind with no head coaching experience. Indeed, two names the general manager Ryan Poles intends to interview fit that profile.
The Chicago Bears are set to interview three candidates
Per Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Bears put in a formal request to interview Johnson, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Miami Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver.
“The Chicago Bears have put in formals requests to interview Lions DC Aaron Glenn, Lions OC Ben Johnson, and Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver,” Russini posted on X.

Not a ton of experience
Neither of those three coaches has experience as a head coach in the league.
Glenn and Johnson are headed to the playoffs with the 15-2 Lions, who have a bye this week. The Bears can virtually interview them this week but cannot hold an in-person interview until after the divisional round. With the Dolphins missing the postseason, Weaver can interview three days after the regular season ends.
