It took 31 games, but Chicago Bulls rookie Bobby Portis has found his spot in the rotation.
The 20-year-old has played well the past few weeks for the Bulls, giving them a much-needed lift and earning himself some valuable minutes in the rotation. Portis is averaging 8.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game this season but it’s not only his offensive game that has seen a lift. He’s been a force on the defensive side of the ball as well and his play has certainly caught the attention of head coach Fred Hoiberg.

Portis’ 16 point, 10 rebound game against the Knicks on Friday night finally cemented what Bulls fans have been calling for all season long; a spot in the rotation. After the game, Hoiberg reassured Bulls fans that Portis will get more time. “He’s
playing too well,” Hoiberg said after the win. “He’s playing with so much confidence. He rebounds the ball. He’s playing with a toughness and a swagger. That’s what you want. And again, we’ve talked all along – Bobby’s not going to back down from anybody.”
Hoiberg and the fans are the only ones who are seeing it also. Portis’ teammates are noticing the rookies contributions and one even thinks he’s playing like a veteran:

If he keeps it up, the 22nd overall pick could find himself in the Rookie of the Year race as the season goes on.
