The Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians completed a deal that will send Kosuke Fukudome to the Indians for two minor league prospects. The prospects are OF Abner Abreu and RHP Carlton Smith.
Fukudome signed a four year $48 million contract before the 2008 season. The Cubs are expected to pay a large amount of the $4.7 million still owed to Fukudome.
Tyler Colvin will be with the team in Milwaukee tonight in case a deal gets done before game time. Colvin is expected to get most of the playing time in right field for the rest of the season. He began the year with the Cubs but after a brutal first month he was sent back to the minors. However, Tony Campana will take Fukudome’s sport in right and bat leadoff today against the Brewers.
