Gatorade officially turned 50 on Friday but the celebration is just beginning. The company will host a big 50th birthday bash this weekend centered around Saturday’s big game between Ole Miss and Florida in Gainesville.
The company was founded on Oct. 2, 1965 and has been a staple in sports ever since. Prominent athletes such as former Chicago Bulls great Michael Jordan, Peyton Manning, Tiger Woods, Bryce Harper and Derek Jeter have been endorsed by the company.
On Saturday, Gatorade will have special edition UF squeeze bottles on the sidelines for the teams. It will be the first time the company has made customized equipment for a college program. Via press release:
n 1965, Gatorade was created at the University of Florida to help hydrate Gator football players whose energy was fading at the end of practices and games. With the weekend of October 3rd marking the brand’s 50th birthday, Gatorade is celebrating during the Gators’ home game against Ole Miss. Limited edition UF squeeze bottles will be on the Gators’ sidelines to mark 50 years since Florida’s players first used Gatorade during a game. The anniversary is also being celebrated on social media with the hashtag #GatoradeUF.
In addition to the special bottles, there will also be a Gala dinner featuring special athletes as well as the groundbreaking of the Dr. Robert Cade museum.
