The Chicago Cubs have made a couple of significant roster moves at pitcher before their series with the Los Angeles Dodgers this week. The Cubs need to find a starting pitcher to replace Justin Steele, who is out for the season due to a left elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery.
They also need to boost the bullpen.
On their off day Monday, the Cubs traded with the Seattle Mariners for Drew Pomeranz, an All-Star nominee in 2016 who has not pitched in the majors since 2021. They also signed Peter Solomon to a minor league deal.
The Chicago Cubs optioned Jordan Wicks to Iowa

Per Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times, the Cubs recalled right-handed pitcher Gavin Hollowell and optioned left-handed pitcher Jordan Wicks to Iowa.
“Cubs announce they’ve recalled RHP Gavin Hollowell and optioned LHP Jordan Wicks to Triple-A Iowa,” Lee posted on X.

Wicks has appeared in two games this season. He’s given up three earned runs, five runs, and six hits in two innings pitched. The 25-year-old has earned two strikeouts and an ERA of 13.5.
Hollowell was claimed by the Cubs in August of 2024. The sixth-round pick by the Colorado Rockies in 2019 started the season in Iowa. He has a career ERA of 6.0 through 33 games. He’s earned 41 strikeouts and has a record of 2-2.
The Cubs could ask Hollowell to pitch against a strong Dodgers lineup. Los Angeles enters the two-game series at Wrigley Field with a 16-7 record. The Dodgers lead the regular season series 3-2.
