The collective groan following Mike Glennon’s performance in the Bears’ loss to Tampa Bay on Sunday got a little louder as one of Chicago’s biggest stars, Kris Bryant, weighed in on the topic during an appearance on 670 The Score on Thursday afternoon.
Discussing the Bears’ recent woes in starting the season 0-2, Bryant was asked by The Score’s Jason Goff and Anthony Herron whether he believed rookie QB Mitchell Trubisky should get the opportunity to play given the team’s start to the season. The reigning NL MVP didn’t mince his words in responding to the question:
I mean, give him a chance. You’ll never know unless he’s out there playing.” – Kris Bryant on 670 The Score’s Bernstein and Goff show
Bryant went on to say success may not be found right away with the rookie, echoing his start as a major league player. Nevertheless, when one of the city’s biggest stars chimes in and says to give Trubisky a chance, the call for change can only get louder.
Following three first-half turnovers against the Bucs, Glennon’s status as Chicago’s starting QB did not waiver with head coach John Fox, but the question is, when will it? Looking back at the tape it’s painfully obvious that the decision making made by Glennon has been sub-par through two games. Could another bad showing against Pittsburgh on Sunday be the final nail in the coffin? Don’t count on it just yet, but consider this: we’ve seen what Mike Glennon is capable of, we’ve seen the abilities of John Fox as a head coach, so isn’t it time to see what Ryan Pace has in arguably his biggest move of his tenure to date? Strikeouts on Glennon, Fox and Trubisky could potentially spell another big change…but this time in the front office.
