2nd Round, 56 overall (from Jacksonville) CB Tyrique Stevenson, Miami
Now, this one surprised me a bit. I knew selecting a cornerback would be on their radar at some point in the draft, I just didn’t expect it to be this early. However, I like Stevenson’s measurable’s and ability to stop the run as an outside corner.
With so many other options on the board like center’s John Michael Schmitz and Juice Scruggs, I thought that was the clear selection. I guess this organization has more faith in Cody Whitehair at the center position than I do.
Tyrique Stevenson could be Jaylon Johnson’s replacement if the Chicago Bears decide not to resign him soon, and that may be the reason they selected a corner so early. I like his burst and speed on the outside, and think he’ll be a fine player in the NFL; I just saw other needs like center that could’ve been addressed.
Grade: C+
