EDGE Austin Booker, Kansas (Round 5, Pick 144)
Austin Booker is another super raw player that GM Ryan Poles, and former head coach Matt Eberflus, fell in love with during the pre-draft process. He had a fantastic preseason and was proving to be a smart risk by this front office who needed more pass rushers.
Booker had a great 2023 campaign with the Kansas Jayhawks, with eight sacks and 12 TFL. However, he only played 505 snaps during his college career, making him another project player. He didn’t contribute much this season, but that was expected due to his inexperience and being low on the depth chart. Booker racked up 1.5 sacks and 14 tackles.
At times he got bullied in the run game and looks like he may need to beef up a little in order to be a consistent contributor in the future.
With that being said, when you get this deep into the draft it can become hit or miss. Time will tell with Booker, but I like his motor and think this could end up being a decent pick if he works on his craft and gains more experience.
