The Chicago Blackhawks traveled to Dallas on Saturday night to battle their new divisional foe, the Stars. While the Hawks found themselves killing penalties early and often, the penalty kill rose to the occasion and the big guns took it from there.
With two penalties in the first four minutes of the game, the Hawks did not get off to the start they wanted on the road. Although they were able to kill off both penalties, the Stars grabbed a 1-0 six minutes into the game. Cody Eakin (5) got the goal for Dallas. Despite spending almost a third of the period on the penalty kill, the Hawks kept with the Stars in shots on goal and Marian Hossa(7) tied in up in the final minutes of the first.
After giving the lead back to Dallas early in second, the Hawks took over the game with help of Patrick Sharp. Jonathan Toews(9) and Patrick Kane(10) put the Hawks ahead in the second as they continue to battle for the team lead in goals. Sharp was credited with his second and third assists on the night and was not done yet.
Taking a 3-2 lead into the third, the Hawks and goalie Corey Crawford made sure there was no third period let down in this game. Crawford continued his stellar play tonight as he stop 31 of 33 shots and posted a scoreless third period. Patrick Sharp added one more assist as Hossa(8) scored his second goal of the night to give the Hawks a two goal lead late in the game. Niklas Hjalmarsson(2) put the nail in the coffin less than a minute later.
The Blackhawks move to 11-2-4 on the season as Dallas falls to 8-7-2. Hawks return home for for their second game in as many days on Sunday against the Edmonton Oilers.
