John Danks, JJ Putz and Bobby Jenks combined for a 2 hit shut out tonight giving the Sox two straight wins over Seattle. Sox pitchers have allowed just 1 run over 18 innings against the M’s. Hudson’s performance may have been a surprise to some last night but John Danks was his usual self. After allowing a single in the 2nd inning, Danks would not allow another hit until the 8th inning. In 7.2 innings Danks allowed just 2 hits, while striking out 8. JJ Putz and Bobby Jenks would combine for 1.1 innings of perfect baseball.
But to go with a great pitching performance, the Sox also had a very nice outing from there batters, which included a line up without Carlos Qunetin. With one out in the 4th inning, Mark Kotsay broke the scoreless tie with an RBI ground out. Mark put very good would on the ball, but was 0-4 with a lot of nice players and hanging balls in the outfield. The slumping Juan Pierre got his grove back with an RBI double to score Alexei Ramirez. Later in the inning it was Alex Rios who would knock in Pierre with the RBI single to right. And just for insurance in the 9th inning, Alexei Ramirez belted a homer to left to cap off the 4-0 win over the Mariners.
The Sox will attempt the 3 game sweep tomorrow night.
