IceHogs Check Off Checkers 5-1

The IceHogs topped the Charlotte Checkers 5-1 last night in Rockford. The Win places Rockford in 1st Place in the AHL’s Midwest Division. The IceHogs currently are neck & neck with the Grand Rapids Griffins in points and it appears it will come down to the last game of the regular season, before a Division Winner can be named.

Hogs’ Winger, Spencer Abbott, continues to amaze and prove that he was a great return in exchange for fan favorite, TJ Brennan. Brennan was traded to Toronto by the Blackhawks back on February 26th, 2015. While the IceHogs were shorthanded, Abbott scored a sick goal last night, beating Checkers’ netminder, John Muse. The IceHogs have the video of that goal up on their site, give it a view.

Making his home game debut, Tanner Kero(C) found the back of the net midway in the 3rd frame, sealing the Win for the IceHogs. Kero signed a ATO with the Hogs earlier this month and has also signed a 2 year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. Completing the list for Rockford, Phillip Danault, Mark McNeill, and Cody Bass also scored goals. Top Stars for the Game were Tanner Kero, Stephen Johns and Cody Bass respectively.

The IceHogs had several additions and subtractions to their roster this past week. On April 9th the Hogs announced that they had signed Carl Dahlstrom(D) & Robin Norell(D) to ATO’s (Amateur Try Out). Both defensemen are the Blackhawks’ 2013 NHL Entry Draft picks. Then on April 12th the Blackhawks recalled Antti Raanta(G) & Kyle Cumiskey(D) to Chicago and reassigned Mac Carruth(G), Kirill Gotovets(D) & Justin Holl(D) to Rockford. April 14th the IceHogs then announced that they have signed Robin Press(D) to a ATO contract. Press is also a 2013 Blackhawks NHL Entry Draft pick.

Next home game for the IceHogs is tomorrow night, April 17th at 7:00pm.
