It’s a tight race in the Midwest Division standings of the AHL and the IceHogs are currently looking at a possible Play-Off position since 2010. Last night the IceHogs took on a division rival, the Grand Rapids Griffins, in front of sold-out hometown crowd. The crowd of 6475 screaming fans helped the IceHogs “Red Out” the arena, as fans wore red colored hats, scarfs, shirts, pants, and jerseys. The first 1500 fans through the doors on Saturday night were also handed free red t-shirts as they entered the arena.
The nail biting game ended after 3 periods of regulation play with the score tied 2-2. Griffins’ Andy Miele(C) tipped the puck in at 1:27 in the OT frame. The Griffins are currently riding a hot streak, scoring points in the last 15 games they’ve played.
