The IceHogs hosted their rivals, the Chicago Wolves, for the last time in regular season play last night in Rockford. It was Country Night featuring music by South 40 and the stands were filled out with a sellout crowd. That sellout crowd was hoping for a win, but it just wasn’t in the cards for the Hogs, as they lost in OT 3-4.
A special ceremony was held prior to puck drop, celebrating the recent AHL record set by goaltender Michael Leighton. Leighton broke the record for career shutouts when he won his 46th shutout game on March 5 of this year.
Later this afternoon, the IceHogs have a 4pm tilt against the Charlotte Checkers. It’s also the Annual Jersey Auction, with Star Wars as the theme for the jersey design. Proceeds from the auction go the IceHogs Charitable Foundation, which in turn donates to many local charities.
