The IceHogs hosted the Manitoba Moose for the first time this season earlier this morning in Rockford. Rockford came out strong in the first period, with Tanner Kero making the first goal of the game. The Moose answered back a little less than 3 minutes later with their own goal, scored by JC Lipon. The second period saw the Hogs flounder and only able to score one goal to the two by the Moose that period.
At one point in the 2nd frame, the IceHogs attempted to replace starting goaltender, Michael Leighton, with dressed back-up Mac Carruth. But officials ruled that the IceHogs could not use Carruth as he was not listed on the game roster for the team this game. Apparently Mark Visentin’s name was listed. Visentin is currently out with a lower body injury.
During the third period the IceHogs were unable to find the back of the net, while the Moose were able to score an additional two goals. Thus making the final score: IceHogs 2 – Moose 5. Manitoba’s Patrice Cormier snagged himself a Hat Trick during the game and was named the #1 Star of the Game.
The IceHogs return home on Friday evening and face the Moose again.
