It was Military Appreciation Night last night at the BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford and the IceHogs were dressed in special commemorative jerseys for the occasion. The Hogs were hosting rivals, the Milwaukee Admirals in front of 4521 fans in the stands. The game opening flag ceremony was conducted by the US Air Force enlistees. Those 51 young men & women later took their enlistment oath during the first intermission break at center ice.
Tyler Barnes scored his very first & second goals as a IceHogs player. The game appeared to be going in the Hogs favor until 2 goals by Milwaukee, late in the 3rd period, sent the game into overtime. The game remained tied 2-2 after 5 minutes of 3 on 3 overtime hockey, thus sending it into a shootout. Milwaukee’s first shooter, Kevin Fiala, found the back of the net, while Rockford’s Tyler Barnes, Martin Lundberg and Erik Gustafsson all were unable to get past the Admirals’ netminder, Marek Mazanec. Mac Carruth was in net for the IceHogs last night.
The special jerseys the IceHogs were wearing will be featured in several different auctions, with proceeds being donated by the IceHogs to a Rockford area Vet Drop-in Center. The center provides services to area veteran military service men & women and operates on donations alone.
