The IceHogs returned to home ice last night, after the AHL All-Stars competitions break. Perhaps the short break wasn’t a good thing, as they were decisively overrun by the Griffins 1-9. The night did start out on a high note, with Rockford’s Michael Leighton being presented the AHL Goaltender of the Month of January Award by Mark Bernard.
After the Griffins scored their 5th goal midway in the 2nd frame, Mac Carruth replaced Leighton in net. Rockford’s lone goal was scored by Mike Liambas. For a game without any full out fights, Rockford managed to add up penalties fast. They received a total of 43 minutes during the game, including 2 Game Misconducts.
Mitch Callahan, for the Griffins, scored a Hat Trick and a total of 5 points last night and was awarded the 1st Star of the Game.
The teams meet up again tonight in Grand Rapids, MI. Next home game for the IceHogs isn’t until February 14th. That starts a busy home stand for the Hogs of 3 games in 6 days.
