Last night in Rockford was a night of Fun. Fun for the fans watching a very exciting game and fun for the kids dressed in Halloween costumes. Even quite a few of the adult fans got into the Halloween spirit by dressing in costumes. After the game concluded, the costumed children were allowed out onto the ice to Trick or Treat with the IceHogs players.
Getting back to that exciting game…there seemed to be a visable tension detected between the Hogs and the Wild. Checks were harder and tempers surfaced often. IceHogs’ netminder, Michael Leighton, earned his 42nd career AHL Shutout, stopping all 20 of the Wild’s shots. The first 3 goals for Rockford were scored by Dennis Robertson, Brandon Mashinter and Dennis Rasmussen respectively. PC Labrie scored Rockford’s 4th goal and set the whole team into a laughing fit of joy. It was scored off a face-off pass from teammate, Jake Dowell. If you blinked your eyes, you missed it, as it was that quick. Immediately following the very next face-off, Labrie dropped gloves with Wild’s Kurtis Gabriel.
Now get out your Fight Cards, as there might be a test. The Wild seemed to take exception to Rockford shutting down their every attempt to score, as 2 more fights during the 3rd period. Fight #2 was between Tyson Strachan & Brandon Mashinter and fight #3 was between Sam Jardine & Kurtis Gabriel. All 3 IceHogs players Won their individual bouts, by taking their Wild fight opponents to the ice first. Iowa’s Gabriel received a Game Misconduct for his actions.
The IceHogs take to the road on Sunday, for a game in Des Moines and then again on Friday night in Grand Rapids. They return home on Saturday November 7th for Military Appreciation Night against the Milwaukee Admirals.
November 7th is also a very special day in Rockford, as the IceHogs team up for the 5th year in a row with the Have A Skate With Bob Foundation, to raise funds to fight Pancreatic Cancer. There will be 2 afternoon games, starting at 1:00pm, at the BMO Harris Bank Centre, where the players play hockey to help raise funds for the foundation. Tickets for the evening IceHogs game will allow you admittance to the afternoon games too. During the IceHogs’ game that evening, the Foundation hosts a Silent Auction that features a large selection of Hockey related collectibles.
