The Illinois Fighting Illini had a 37-27 lead at the end of the first half. They did not score again until they trailed 41-37. The Illini would not recover after that. They would fall to the Michigan State Spartans by a score of 80-75. Keith Appling scored 24 points to lead the Spartans in scoring, while Tracy Abrams led the Illini with 16 points.
The real worry for Illini fans is will they recover from this most recent slump. Last year, the Illini has an 11-3 record going into conference play. They finished with a 17-15 record. This year, the team was 13-1 going into Big Ten play. Now their record is 15-7. Even with new Coach John Groce, the Illini seem to collapse in conference play. If no sudden change happens, time may be running out for the Illini to make a postseason run.
