Win: Mat Latos (3-0) Loss: Edwin Jackson (0-5) Save: J.J. Hoover (2)
Home Runs: None
The Good: The consistent David DeJesus delivered two doubles and Alfonso Soriano drove in two runs on pop fly single that resulted in a collision between Brandon Phillips and Shin-Soo Choo. Carlos Marmol and Michael Bowden each tossed scoreless innings.
The Bad: Kameron Loe, who seemingly pitches every day despite continuing to struggle, allowed another run in an inning of work. DeJesus was the only Cubs who had more than one hit, but Darwin Barney was the only one who didn’t have any. Barney’s hitting at a .159/.274/.270 slash so far, causing some fans to call for his benching.
The Ugly: It now seems like every start is a struggle for Edwin Jackson. He allowed four runs on eight hits in five innings, raising his ERA to 6.39, not what the Cubs expected from him when they signed him to a $52 million deal in December. Shawn Camp, who is also struggling mightily, allowed two more runs in an inning of work.
The Stat: After another rough inning, Shawn Camp’s ERA was raised to 8.03. He could be DFA’d soon.
Notes: The Cubs will face the Rangers tomorrow in a make up game. The Rangers will throw out Nick Tepesch while the Cubs will counter with Scott Feldman.
