A pair of Chicago Cubs are being rewarded for their stellar play in the month of August. Major League Baseball announced that Jake Arrieta has won the NL Pitcher of the Month award and Kris Bryant has won the NL Pitcher of the Month award.

Arrieta is coming off a red-hot month of August where he went 6-0 with a 0.43 ERA in six starts. He capped off the month by throwing a no-hitter vs. the Los Angles Dodgers on Sunday. Arrieta beat out San Francisco’s Madison Bumgarner for the award. The right-hander improved his record to 17-6 on the year currently is tied for the Major League lead in wins.
The rookie Bryant had a stellar August after hitting a slum in July. Bryant hit .330 with seven home runs in the month of August, as he lead all rookies with an on-base percentage of .422 and a .620 slugging percentage. The 23-year-old collects his second NL Rookie of the Month award this season. He’s the favorite for the NL Rookie of the Year award.
