Chicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez is picking up in 2019 right where he left off in 2018 and that’s good news for the Northsiders.
Baez got the Cubs on the board in their season opener on Thursday with a fourth-inning home run to cut the Rangers lead to 2-1. Watch as Baez took starter Mike Minor deep:
He wasn’t done.
An inning later Baez launched an opposite field home run, his second of the game, as part of a six-run fifth-inning that gave the Cubs the lead for good.
The shortstop finished the game 2-for-5 with 4 RBI and 2 runs scored, hitting in the four spot in the lineup. After being an MVP candidate in 2018, Baez is off to a hot start in 2019.
