ChicagoBreakingSports is reporting that Chicago fan favorite Jim Cornelison will sing the national anthem this sunday. Cornelison dazzled the home crowd at Soldier Field in the divisional game vs the Seattle Seahawks.
I was absolutely blown away with his rendition and you can tell by the crowd’s reaction they were very pleased as well.
Bears fans roared with approval when Blackhawks favorite Jim Cornelison belted out the national anthem before last Sunday’s playoff victory over the Seahawks. Now they will get a chance to do so again before the NFC Championship Game.
Fox Sports officials confirmed Tuesday that Cornelison again will do the national-anthem honors before Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field.
Lee DeWyze, the “American Idol” star from Mount Prospect who reportedly was going to sing the anthem, instead will perform at halftime.
Cornelison, appearing Tuesday with Greg Jarrett on WGN-AM 720, said singing outdoors at a venue like Soldier Field (he also performed before the Northwestern-Illinois game at Wrigley Field last November) is a different experience than at a Blackhawks game.
“The United Center, of course, is enclosed and not as large, and the sound is more deafening,” said Cornelison, adding that the Bears’ experience was “tremendously exciting. You have three times as many people. There’s a sense in the air, you can feel that sound all around you.
“It’s beautiful. Going out there Sunday … the communal response, it’s not just exciting, it’s really touching.”
Cornelison said he appreciates the response he has received from fans.
“I’ve been absolutely blown away by how supportive the Chicago fans — hockey and now football, they’ve been so supportive of me,” he said.
