Chicago Bulls guard Jimmy Butler trailed Cleveland’s Kyrie Irving by 40,000 votes for a starting spot on the NBA’s Eastern Conference team. On Thursday, Butler made a statement that he should be in Toronto as a starter.
Butler scored a career-high 53 points in the comeback win over the Philadelphia 76ers. The 26-year-old Butler’s effort helped the Bulls erase a 20-plus point deficit in the first half, as they came out firing in the second half.

Butler became the third player in the NBA to score 50 or more points, joining Stephen Curry and James Harden to accomplish the feat. His 53 ties Curry for the most in a single game this season.
The performance was one for the ages as he became the first Bulls player since Jamal Crawford in 2004 to score 50 or more points in a game. It’s also his second 40-plus point performance in the last 11 days.
If this doesn’t help his All-Star cause, then I don’t know what will.
