The Chicago Cubs lineup is pretty damn good.
From top to bottom, it’s the best in the National League and arguably the best in baseball. They have three players with 88-plus RBI’s, an MVP favorite in Kris Bryant with 36 home runs and a cornerstone at first base with Anthony Rizzo. That’s not all either.
Almost everyone in the lineup contributes on a daily basis, making it a tough one for a pitcher to go against. Now that lineup is being recognized by one of the best pitchers in the National League.
Miami Marlins ace Jose Fernandez spoke after facing the Cleveland Indians over the weekend and was asked about the toughest lineups he’s faced. Fernandez said both the Cubs and Indians were the toughest:
“These guys and the Cubs, I think are the two toughest lineups I’ve faced.”
You can watch the interview below:
The 24-year-old has faced the Cubs twice in 2016. On June 26th, Fernandez struck out 13 Cubs batters as the Marlins got the win and took the series from the Cubs.
But the Cubs got some revenge a little over a month later.
On August 2, the Cubs scored 3 runs on 8 hits off of Fernandez to get the 3-2 win at Wrigley Field. Facing them twice, Fernandez has a good idea just how good the Cubs are.
The Marlins are attempting to make a push at the Wild Card and maybe get Fernandez that third start against the Cubs in the NLDS. Stay tuned.
