Will the streak ever end? Man I hope not, as the Sox have beaten the Cubs 3-2 to give the White Sox 11 straight wins now. The Sox have already one this series and since they won last series the Sox are now the first time winners of the BP Crosstown Cup.
It was a battle of 8 game winners today as Carlos Silva (8-2) went up against Freddy Garcia (8-3). Neither pitcher picked up a loss but in the end it would be up to the bullpen to lock it down. For the Cubs, Carlos Silva was just brilliant. Silva pitched 6 innings giving up just 2 runs on 3 hits. Silva’s ERA is now at 3.01 and his record stands at 8-2. For the Sox Freddy Garcia was just as good as he weent 7 innings also allowing 2 runs, as he gave up 8 hits. Garcia’s record still stands at 8-3 and he has an ERA of 4.66. The Bullpen would end up being the difference in the game and that was not a good thing for the North Siders. Cashner was great in the 7th as he retired the first 3 men in order on just 7 pitches. But in the 8th it was Paul Konerko who gave the Sox the 3-2 lead. For the Sox it was up to Putz and Matt Thornton to lock it down. Both pitchers went an inning allowing no runs and no hits.
Hitting was a little bit of a struggle for the Sox as they managed just 4 hits but that is all they would need. After a Gordon Beckham triple in the third, Alex Rios knocked him in with a single just by the out stretched glove of Castro. Derek Lee would do the same for the Cubs in the 6th scoring Ryan Theriot. Ramirez hit a sac fly in the bottom half of the 6th scoring paul Konerko. In this back in forth affair it was the Cubs turn to score when Aramis Ramirez hit a home run over the leaping Alex Rios in Center. But Mr. Clutch Paul Konerko would give the Sox the lead again on the home run to left centerfield which ended up being the game winning home run.
Matt Thornton faced a little bit of trouble in the 9th when he allowed a walk. But after a strike out, Thornton got Soriano to ground into the game ending double play giving the Sox the 3-2 win.
The Sox now have 11 straight wins and will look to continue there streak tomorrow after noon when John Danks takes the hill.
