The future is arriving at Wrigley Field and should be in the lineup for Friday’s game vs. the San Diego Padres.
According to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, the Chicago Cubs are expected to call up top prospect Kris Bryant on Friday. Bryant will be called up to take the roster spot of third baseman Mike Olt who is going on the DL.

Bryant was very impressive in Spring Training hitting 9 home runs and then hitting three in seven games with the Iowa Cubs. The 23-year-old was hitting .333 with 7 RBI’s going into Thursday’s game after putting up impressive numbers in both Double-A and Triple-A last season. I But now Bryant will be on the big stage as Wrigley Field is ready for him as he is expected to play third base in his debut.
With the call up on Friday, Bryant can now only accumulate 171 days of service time meaning the Cubs can control him for an extra year. Players need 172 days to be credited with a full year. The MLB Players Association were not happy with the Cubs decision to not put Bryant on the Opening Day roster, claiming they weren’t doing it for baseball reasons.
The Cubs currently sit in first place in the NL Central with a surprising 5-3 record in a season filled with hope. Adding in the long-awaited debut of Bryant should help the Cubs as they are approaching a stretch of 20 straight games vs NL Central division opponents.
Tomorrow is going to be a special day at Wrigley Field.
